The upcoming MG Astor SUV is also purported to be available with a hybrid powertrain.
The MG Astor SUV is all set to receive an update, and the same was recently spotted without any camouflage of sorts. While the timeline for the official launch is still under wraps, we expect it to happen in the coming months. So, soon is the catchphrase here.
Moreover, the uncamouflaged model was the MG VS, which is essentially the Astor sold by that name in global markets. The MG VS is available with a hybrid powertrain, which has been speculated will also be carried over to the India-spec MG Astor as well. So, while the 1.5-litre inline-4 engine will continue to feature under the hood, it will come paired to a 2.13 kWh lithium-ion battery with a total output of 175 bhp and 142 Nm. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a CVT gearbox.
This speculation further feels like a strong possibility when you combine it with MG’s statement earlier that it wants to focus more on clean energy vehicles. The Chinese-owned British carmaker revealed this strategy while announcing its JV with India’s JSW group.
Aesthetically, the MG VS boasts quite the sporty body style. While the front is adorned by sleek LED headlights and DRL units, the new closed grille design and the larger air intakes further add a touch of sophistication. Just like the exterior, the cabin is also slated to undergo a thorough revision, with the inclusion of a new dual display console on the dashboard, a new gear lever, and a new steering wheel set-up as well, alongside several other features.
Currently, the MG Astor is available in thirteen variants and was the first SUV in its segment to debut ADAS technology. Prices start from ₹9.98 lakh and go up to ₹17.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). MG also recently launched its Blackstorme Edition which is priced at a premium of ₹14.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and also a ‘100-year celebration model’ in its iconic British green. With the updates that the upcoming MG Astor will debut with, we expect its prices to increase as well, but by how much that we’ll come to know when it launches.
