The Punch EV will be the most affordable electric SUV from the Tata stable
Tata Motors is gearing up for big launches in the current financial year. The company has just launched 2 new products in its CNG line-up - the Punch and the Altroz – and is now gearing up to bring 3 more vehicles to the country. During the company’s 78th AGM, Natrajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Motors, confirmed 4 launches by the first quarter of the next financial year.
He said, “We will launch the upgraded version of Nexon anytime soon. Then we will launch Harrier in the later part of this year, then Punch EV, and then the new product Curvv EV sometime towards the first quarter of next year,”
While the Nexon and Harrier were up for a much deserved facelift, Tata Motors bringing in the Punch EV in this financial year certainly is big news! The Punch EV will be the 4th all-electric car in the company’s stable and will again play in the mass market segment. Tata Motors already has the Tiago, Tigor and the Nexon EV in its electric portfolio and the Punch EV will be the company’s most affordable all-electric SUV in the country.
While we don’t think it will undercut the price of the Tiago EV or the Tigor EV, it is likely to be priced just below the Nexon EV. Adding another SUV to its EV portfolio will certainly up the ante. We still do not know what battery will power it so we will wait for more details to come up.
In the first quarter of FY23-24, Tata Motors will also launch the SUV based on the Curvv Concept, which it showcased last year. The Curvv Concept will be available In both the ICE and the EV form, so we wait to see what the company announces on that front.
