The waiver applies to all strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, providing substantial financial relief.
In a significant move to promote eco-friendly transportation, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a complete waiver of the registration fee for hybrid vehicles in the state. This initiative, detailed in a circular dated July 5, aims to encourage the adoption of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) by offering financial incentives to potential buyers.
The waiver applies to all strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, providing substantial financial relief. This policy is expected to benefit manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, and Honda Cars India, with various hybrid models available. By eliminating the registration fee, the government hopes to boost the sales of greener vehicles, thereby reducing the environmental impact of traditional petrol and diesel engines.
Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara SUV and Invicto MPV, Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV and Innova Hycross MPV, and Honda’s City e-HEV sedan are among the popular hybrid vehicles that will benefit from this policy. Potential buyers could save over ₹3 lakh on models like the Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross, and over ₹2 lakh on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda City e-HEV.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are equipped with a 1.5-litre hybrid powertrain, which delivers a combined output of 114 bhp through a petrol engine and electric motor, paired with an e-CVT. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross feature a 2.0-litre hybrid system, offering a total power of 183 bhp, also using an e-CVT. The Honda City e-HEV includes a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and dual electric motors, achieving a combined output of 124 bhp, and operates with an e-CVT.
