VinFast Unveils India Launch Timeline for VF7, VF6, VF3, VF5 and VF9

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially announced its entry into the Indian market, unveiling plans to launch its VF7 and VF6 electric SUVs this year, while the VF3, VF5 and a 7-seater electric SUV will come to our shores next year. Bookings for the first two models are expected to commence later this month, with deliveries slated to begin ahead of the festive season in September 2025.

The VF7, a mid-sized electric SUV, will serve as VinFast's flagship model in India. Designed in collaboration with Italy's Torino Design, the VF7 features a coupe-like silhouette and is available in two trims globally: Eco and Plus. The Eco variant offers a front-wheel-drive setup with 172 bhp and 250 Nm torque, while the Plus variant provides all-wheel drive with 344 bhp and 500 Nm torque. Both variants are equipped with a 75.3 kWh battery, delivering an estimated WLTP range of up to 450 km.

The VF6, a compact electric SUV, is tailored for urban commuting. It measures 4238 mm in length and is also available in two trims: Eco and Plus. Both variants feature front-wheel drive, with the Eco producing 172 bhp and the Plus offering 198 bhp. A 59.6 kWh battery powers the VF6, providing a range of approximately 381-399 km, depending on the variant.

In 2026, VinFast plans to introduce three new models to the Indian market — the VF3, VF5, and a three-row electric SUV, likely to be the flagship VF9. The VF3 and VF5 were showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo, offering a glimpse of the brand’s upcoming compact EV portfolio. The VF9, expected to lead the lineup, will cater to larger families with its seven-seat configuration and premium positioning, while the VF3 is a small-sized EV (3,190 mm in length), featuring SUV-like styling and a claimed range of around 200 km. It will compete with models like the MG Comet EV.

VinFast is investing $500 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The plant is expected to commence operations by the end of June 2025, initially focusing on assembling vehicles using completely knocked down (CKD) kits. The facility will have an initial production capacity of 50,000 units per year, scalable up to 150,000 units based on market demand.

Additionally, the company is actively working with local suppliers to increase the localisation of its vehicles. Efforts are underway to localise battery production, which could contribute to achieving 30-40 per cent localisation, thereby reducing costs and making the vehicles more competitive in the Indian market. 

Moreover, VinFast aims to position itself as a premium electric vehicle brand in India, targeting urban centres where EV infrastructure is more developed. The company plans to adopt a top-down approach, introducing premium models first, followed by more affordable options like the VF3 micro SUV.

To support its operations, VinFast is establishing a dealership and service network across key Indian cities. The company is focusing on creating a favourable brand image and ensuring high-quality service to build trust among Indian consumers.
