Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast is preparing to enter the Indian market with the VF7, its first offering for the country. Ahead of its expected launch later this year, a unit of the VF7 has been spotted in Mumbai, suggesting that local testing and validation are now underway. The vehicle was seen on a flatbed trailer, finished in the brand’s Jet Black exterior paint, offering a closer look at its production-ready India-spec configuration.

The VF7 showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo earlier this year was equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels and low-profile Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. In contrast, the test vehicle seen in Mumbai wore 19-inch alloy wheels fitted with 245/50 R19 Apollo Aspire tyres, a move likely aimed at improving ride comfort on Indian roads.

The VF7 prototype offers a clear view of its front fascia, wing mirrors, and a portion of the cabin. The design appears consistent with the international version, characterised by VinFast’s V-shaped LED signature lighting and a coupe-like silhouette. Additionally, several features are identifiable from the spy shots such as Camera-based ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite mounted behind the windshield, Wing mirror camera, suggesting availability of a 360-degree camera system, a large central infotainment screen, though it’s unclear if this is the 12.9-inch or the more premium 15-inch unit available overseas.

Internationally, the VF7 is available in two variants – Eco & Plus – both powered by a 75.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. The VF7 Eco will come with a single-motor FWD, 201 bhp and 310 Nm, with 450 km WLTP range, while the VF7 Plus features a dual-motor AWD, 349 bhp and 500 Nm, with 431 km WLTP range.
VinFast has confirmed plans to locally assemble its EVs at a new facility in Tamil Nadu, which will help the VF7 enter the market with competitive pricing. The company is targeting a launch around October 2025, coinciding with India’s festive season.

Pricing is expected in the ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. This will place the VF7 squarely against established rivals like the BYD Atto 3, which currently retails between ₹24.99 lakh and ₹33.99 lakh, offering battery options of 49.92 kWh and 60.48 kWh with ARAI-claimed ranges of 468 km and 521 km, respectively.
