The VF MPV 7 has entered India’s steadily expanding electric MPV segment. Will the road ahead be easy for it?
Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has launched the MPV 7, a dedicated seven-seater electric MPV priced at ₹24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Positioned as a practical family vehicle with a single battery variant, it enters a growing segment where it competes with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, and to some extent, even the Mahindra XEV 9S. While the VinFast MPV 7 offers competitive range and space, a quick features comparison should reveal clear strengths and weaknesses against its Indian rivals.
All three models target large Indian families seeking spacious electric transport. The VinFast MPV 7 uses a 60.13 kWh battery pack delivering a claimed range of 517 km. It generates 201 bhp with 280 Nm torque. Fast charging takes the battery from 10 to 70% in around 30 minutes. It measures 4,740 mm in length with a long 2,840 mm wheelbase for generous three-row space.

The Mahindra XEV 9S provides more choice with 59 kWh (521 km range, ₹19.95 lakh base) and 79 kWh (679 km range, ₹30.20 lakh top) battery options. It offers up to 282 bhp and, therefore, stronger performance. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is the most affordable, starting at ₹17.99 lakh with 42 kWh (404 km) or 51.4 kWh (490 km) packs and 133-169 bhp.
In terms of key features for the Indian market, differences stand out. The VinFast MPV 7 comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen supporting wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control with vents for all three rows, sliding and reclining second-row seats, 19-inch alloys and six airbags. It offers three drive modes and four regen levels but lacks a sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and ADAS.

The Mahindra XEV 9S stands out with a triple-screen setup, panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio, dual-zone climate control, multi-colour ambient lighting, Level 2 ADAS and higher ground clearance. The Kia Carens Clavis EV excels in premium touches such as a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS with around 20 autonomous features, wireless charger, retractable seatback tables, solar UV-cut glass and advanced safety aids including rear occupant alert.

While the VinFast MPV 7 impresses with cabin space and fast charging, the Mahindra XEV 9S leads on range and performance flexibility, and the Kia Carens Clavis EV offers superior equipment at a lower entry price.
But, VinFast’s biggest flex lies in its free charging and warranty coverage. Buyers will get free charging at VinFast’s official charging outlets till March 2029. Furthermore, there’s 3-year free maintenance, 10-year battery warranty, 7-year vehicle warranty, 5-year suspension warranty, 7-year paint warranty, and 7-year roadside assistance with the The VF MPV 7.
Buyers will need to weigh range requirements, feature priorities and after-sales network when choosing in this competitive electric MPV segment.
