The move could help convince potential buyers to consider an EV by eliminating the significant cost of fuel.
VinFast is hoping to make its electric offerings in India more attractive to potential buyers by completely eliminating charging costs. The EV arm of Vietnamese conglomerate VinGroup, which launched in India last year with its VF6 and VF7 SUVs, had previously committed to subsidising the full cost of charging for its customers until July 2028. The offer is applicable not only in India but also Indonesia and the Philippines, which are key growth markets for VinFast.
All VinFast owners in these three countries can recharge their vehicles for free at V-Green branded charging stations till the end of March, 2029. The company notes that this offer is applicable not only to commercial fleet drivers and operators as well as private car owners. In India, the company has partnered with RoadGrid and HPCL to develop and operate charging stations at strategic locations across the country.
The move could also help convince potential buyers to consider an EV by eliminating the significant cost of fuel, especially in light of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East which has already disrupted global petroleum supplies, leading to higher costs for consumers. VinFast also says this furthers its mission to promote eco-friendly vehicles.
VinFast currently sells its VF6 and VF7 compact electric SUVs in India, with the Limo Green electric MPV likely to launch very soon. At least two additional models are expected to come to India this year, likely the more affordable VF5 and VF3, to address different market segments. The company hopes to expand its Indian operations and grow its presence outside major cities. Electric scooters and buses are also on the company’s roadmap, capitalising on the manufacturing facility it has set up in Tamil Nadu. Expanded charging infrastructure and a ride-hailing platform are also on the cards.
Earlier this month, the company announced a Trade Gas for Electric initiative in India and some other countries, under which buyers looking to replace an ICE car or scooter can get a 3 percent or 5 percent discount, respectively. The offer runs till the end of this month.
Commenting on the new offer, Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Global Sales, VinFast, said: “VinFast’s initial free charging policy received strong support from consumers, both in Vietnam and in international markets where VinFast operates. Extending this policy for another three years is the next step in our strategy to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles. VinFast believes that when operating costs are optimised to nearly zero, consumers will have greater confidence and motivation to switch to green mobility, while also contributing to the greening of transportation systems in these countries.”
