Even the Volkswagen Taigun’s entire line-up has been rejigged.
At its Annual Conference Day, Volkswagen India took to the dias to make a slew of announcements. And one of the biggest and most relevant of them was the reshuffling of the entire Taigun line-up.
Gone are the Dynamic and Performance trims, instead from 2024 onwards the compact SUV will be available in new Sport and Chrome trims. These new trims also see the birth of new GT Plus and GT Line variants. Volkswagen cited that they expect these new variant models will further “democratise” its GT badge, which in turn will help boost its popularity.
Unlike the top-spec GT Edge trim, which continues unchanged and is available with the 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine only, the new Chrome and Sport trim gets the benefit of both the 1.5-litre and 1.0-litre TSI engine options.
The GT Plus variant, which is available with both the Chrome and Sport trim is available with the 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine option (6-speed manual & DSG) only. The GT Line variant, which is available as part of the Sport trim, is limited to the 1.0-litre TSI engine option only (6-speed AT and MT). With this new model, customers with the smaller engine with also get to bask in the glories of the GT styling, which was earlier limited with the bigger EVO engine option.
The Topline, Highline and Comfortline variants continue into 2024 as well, and they are available as part of the Chrome trim. However, they again get the 1.0-litre TSI engine option only and even here, while both Topline and Highline get the benefit of both 6-speed AT and MT gearbox options, the Comfortline is available with the 6-speed MT only.
Both the newly introduced GT Plus and GT Line variants have their own set of dedicated stylings. And despite their uniform essence for dark style, the differences are quite subtle.
For starters on the exterior, the GT Line gets its B and C-Pilars finished in matte black, the GT Plus gets the same finish in Glossy black. At the back, the ‘TAIGUN’ badging is black-coloured in both the GT Line and GT Plus variants. But the GT Plus differentiates itself with its ‘TSI’ badge on the lid and the ‘GT’ badge on the fender in red colour, the same on the GT Line is again finished in black.
Subtle differences like this continue on the inside as well, with the GT Line’s cabin getting Crystal Grey coloured contrast stitching, while the GT Plus variant gets red contrast stitching.
Volkswagen today just unveiled the new model of the Taigun. Prices for the new models will be officially announced in a few weeks.
