Although a definitive delivery timeline has not been disclosed.

Volkswagen has confirmed a second wave of its performance-focused Golf GTI for the Indian market, following the response to the first batch launched earlier this week. The next allocation will consist of 100 units, and although a definitive delivery timeline has not been disclosed, expectations suggest the new lot could arrive by late 2025 or early 2026.

The first batch of 150 units, made available through a unique quiz-based online qualification process on May 5, 2025, saw overwhelming demand, with over 200 prospective buyers still on the waiting list. Volkswagen’s decision to reintroduce the GTI reinforces the growing niche but loyal performance hatchback culture in India.

The Golf GTI, now in its eighth generation, lands in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), and carries an eye-watering price tag of ₹53 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). This makes it one of the most expensive hatchbacks ever officially sold in the country, but also one of the most revered.

Under the hood lies a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 261 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox and an electronic locking differential, the front-wheel-drive setup can catapult the GTI from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 267 kmph.

Despite its compact dimensions, the Golf GTI doesn’t skimp on features. The cabin is tech-laden, with a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital driver display forming the core of its digital cockpit. It also includes three-zone climate control, ambient lighting with 30 customizable colours, a panoramic sunroof, and high-grade upholstery.

Safety-wise, it offers seven airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, emergency braking, and a rear-view camera, reinforcing its premium status. Buyers can choose from a distinctive palette including Kings Red Metallic, Oryx White Pearl, Moonstone Grey, and Grenadilla Black Metallic.
