Volvo has partnered with Google to spearhead Android Automotive software development. It has also integrated Android 15 and Gemini AI into its EX90 SUV, delivering advanced features up to two years ahead of competitors.

Volvo Cars has deepened its decade-long collaboration with Google, taking the lead in developing Android Automotive software.

This partnership allows Volvo to roll out new features and capabilities to its customers faster than rival carmakers, thereby redefining in-car experiences with cutting-edge technology.

Android 15 on Volvo EVs

At Google’s I/O conference in Mountain View, California, Volvo showcased its flagship EX90 electric SUV running Android 15, the latest mobile operating system.

While most carmakers lag two Android versions behind, Volvo plans to integrate this update into production models later this year, giving it a significant edge.

Gemini AI Enhances Driver Interaction

The collaboration also introduced Google’s Gemini AI in the Volvo EX90.

Drivers can now ask Gemini to search emails for destinations or create shopping lists from recipes, offering a seamless, human-centric experience, according to Alwin Bakkenes, Volvo’s head of global software engineering.

Outpacing the Competition

By working closely with Google engineers, Volvo tests software in real-world conditions, enabling rapid deployment of innovations.

This partnership could position Volvo as a potential leader in automotive software, delivering unparalleled experiences to its owners.
