Xiaomi opens its first European EV R&D centre in Germany to boost smart mobility, targeting a 2027 market entry. The tech company is making strides to expand beyond China.

Xiaomi has inaugurated its first European Electric Vehicle (EV) Research and Development (R&D) and Design Centre in Munich, Germany, marking a key expansion beyond its domestic market.

This move supports the company’s global strategy to advance smart mobility and its “Human x Car x Home” ecosystem.

Located in Munich, a hub for automotive engineering, the centre will prioritise performance vehicle projects, EV technology, design innovation, and customer-focused research.

The facility aims to harness Europe’s expertise to drive breakthroughs in intelligent driving and vehicle dynamics, aligning with international safety and quality standards.

Collaboration & Strategic Expansion

The centre will host engineers, designers, and researchers, collaborating with Xiaomi’s global teams to foster talent development.

It will also partner with local research institutions and industry players to address infrastructure, ethical AI, and smart mobility solutions, enhancing cross-sector integration.

This opening follows the successful rollout of the SU7, SU7 Ultra, and YU7 models in China, signaling Xiaomi’s intent to enter the European market by 2027. The expansion strengthens its R&D network, building on its goal to lead in the smart mobility era.

The Munich centre could influence global EV development by promoting advanced technologies and collaborations.
