Does the teased Yamaha adventure boast of better credentials than the updated Hero off-roader?
Yamaha had a nice surprise for us at Auto Expo 2025 by displaying its quarter-litre dual-purpose bike, the Lander XTZ 250. While it is yet to decide if the bike should be brought to India or not, we couldn’t help but think how it would fare against a refreshed popular option: the Hero XPulse 210. So how do the two stack up against each other?
Yamaha Lander XTZ 250 | Hero XPulse 210 4V
Engine | 249 cc single, air-/oil-cooled | 210 cc single, liquid-cooled |
Power | 20.61 bhp | 24.2 bhp |
Torque | 20.59 Nm | 20.7 Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed | 6-speed |
Hero is clearly pushing out more from its smaller displacement motor. Unlike the older 200 4V, the new XPulse 210 is clearly benefiting from modern, sophisticated tech like liquid-cooling and a sixth cog, both of which are lacking on the Yammie. Hence, as an all rounder, the XPulse should fare fare better now.
Yamaha Lander XTZ 250 | Hero XPulse 210 4V
Front Suspension | Telescopic Fork | Telescopic Fork |
Rear Suspension | Link-type Monocross suspension | Link-type Monoshock suspension |
Front Brake | 245 mm Disc | 276 mm Disc |
Rear Brake | 203 mm Disc | 220 mm Disc |
Front Tyre | 80/90 - 21 | 90/90 - 21 |
Rear Tyre | 120/80 - 18 | 120/80 - 18 |
While both bikes are suspended on long travel suspension units, the Yamaha has the longer legs on offer. It also has a slimmer front tyre, which might be slightly more useful in off-roading scenarios. Thankfully, both have pretty common tyre sizes for bikes of this class, so finding spares shouldn’t be that much of a bother. Where the XPulse should have an edge is in braking as it boasts of a larger front rotor as well as three different ABS settings on the Pro variant.
Yamaha Lander XTZ 250 | Hero XPulse 210 4V
Wheelbase | 1390 mm | 1446 mm |
Kerb Weight | 156 kg | 168 kg/170 kg |
Seat Height | 875 mm | 830 mm |
Fuel Tank | 13.6-litre | 13-litre |
Ground Clearance | NA | 220 mm |
On paper, the Lander seems to be the more daunting motorcycle of the two, especially thanks to its 875 mm saddle. Couple that with the shorter wheelbase and it should be a nifty handler. And while the Lander is lighter of the two bikes, with the mandatory accessories that are required for Indian homologation, expect the kilos to go up. The XPulse will be the more stable and more accessible bike of the two, though.
Hero has made significant strides with the new XPulse 210 4V, and the bike reads quite modern on paper. Although, Hero has significantly hiked the asking price of the adventure bike, prices now starting at ₹1.76 lakh onwards (ex-showroom Delhi). The Yamaha Lander XTZ 250 reads quite dull and in comparison also feels quite dated. If Yamaha decides to launch the bike in India, the brand will have to add more features at least. But managing to match the XPulse’s value for money quotient will be very hard for Yamaha to match.
