The focus on export comes at a time when domestic sales have stagnated.

Yamaha recently launched the much-awaited XSR 155 in India along with the Yamaha FZ Rave edition. Apart from the above two motorcycles, the Japanese two-wheeler giant also showcased its first EV offerings for the Indian market - Yamaha EC-06 and the Yamaha Aerox-E. On the sidelines of the above launch, Itaru Otani, Group Chairman Yamaha Motor India Group announced that the Japanese giant plans to make the Chennai factory the export hub for global markets. The above markets will be US, Europe and Japan. Yamaha currently exports to 55 countries from its Indian manufacturing facility and has plans to expand this figure in 2026.

The Japanese bikemaker exports the following two-wheelers from its Chennai plant - FZ V2 (149 cc), FZ V3 (149 cc), FZ V4 (149 cc), Crux (106 cc), Saluto (110 cc), Aerox 155 (155 cc), Ray ZR 125 Fi Hybrid (125 cc) and Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid (125 cc). As you can see some of the models aren’t on sale in the Indian market but have demand in export destinations. According to Otani, the company has itself set a target of increasing exports by 25 % this year. In comparison, Yamaha India had registered 33.4 % growth in exports in 2024-25 as it had shipped out 2,95,728 units out of India.

The focus in exports comes at a time when domestic sales have been stagnant for the brand. The company reported a marginal 0.72 % YoY improvement in sales in Q3 2025. The Yamaha Ray ZR scooter has been performing the best for the Japanese giant followed by the FZ series. However, sales for the Yamaha R15 and MT-15 have been dropping and the company needs to arrest this fall. It will be banking on the new Yamaha XSR 155 to revive sales and as for the EVs, both the scooters are expected to go on sale in Q1 of 2026.
