Both offerings have subtle changes as compared to its India counterparts.
Yamaha has unveiled the 2024 editions of the Yamaha R15M and Yamaha R15 MotoGP Edition in Taiwan. Both of those feature aesthetic tweaks to keep the popular sport bikes fresh. Both colour variants have a higher price tag.
The Taiwanese Yamaha R15M has a revised colour scheme with a more black presence. The headlight cowl, upper fairing, and front fender are now blacked out. They are contrasting with the silver fuel tank and lower fairing. Striking blue and white stripes adorn the sides, complemented by a black R15 logo and a blue M with a black outline. The tail section also receives the black treatment for a more aggressive look.
The Yamaha R15 MotoGP Edition in Taiwan is similar to the Indian Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition in terms of graphics and design. However, a subtle difference lies in the Yamaha logo on the fuel tank, which sports a gold finish on the Taiwanese model compared to the silver logo in India.
The Indian and Taiwanese Yamaha R15M share the same engine. Its a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) that generates 18.4 bhp and 14.2Nm. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch for a smooth riding experience.
Both colour variants of the Yamaha R15M in Taiwan carry an ex-showroom price tag of 1,69,000 yuan, which translates to approximately ₹ 4,35,877. This is considerably higher compared to the Indian pricing of ₹ 1,96,500 for the Yamaha R15M and ₹ 1,97,700 for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition (both ex-showroom). This price difference might suggest that the Taiwanese Yamaha R15 is imported from India or some other South East Asian country.
While the Yamaha R15M doesn't have a direct liquid cooled competitor in the Indian market, it competes against other popular offerings like the Hero Karizma XMR, Bajaj Pulsar NS200, and Suzuki Gixxer SF 250. The ₹ 1.85 lakh price of the newly launched Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z has put it as a real value for money deal close to the Yamaha R15 and R15M.
