The Yamaha R15 gets a sporty makeover
Yamaha knows how hot carbon fibre is, and they've capitalised on that trend with a new Carbon Edition for the R15M. But is it just a cosmetic upgrade, or does it hint at something more? Let's take a closer look.
Yamaha hasn't just randomly slapped carbon fibre finish all over and called it a day. The headlight fairing has carbon fibre finish, complete with a clear coat for a gleaming, high-quality look. This dark black finish on the front beautifully contrasts with the gold fork, creating a visually dynamic front end. The rear quarter panel too has the carbon fibre and the seat texture even matches the weave for a cohesive look.
The Carbon Edition grabs attention with its colour scheme. The silver base of the R15M tank remains, providing a recognisable foundation. Striking blue accents all across the fairing, while the generous use of black, including the wheels and branding, adds an undeniable touch of Yamaha Racing Blue colour palette.
The lack of actual carbon fibre doesn't diminish the Yamaha R15M Carbon Edition's visual appeal. The aggressive aesthetics might resonate with riders who value style and individuality. However, it's crucial to understand that this is primarily a cosmetic offering, not a performance upgrade.
Yamaha's Carbon Edition is a head-turner, no doubt. But the visual upgrade does not translate to a more performance-oriented experience. This is just a carbon fibre finish and not actual carbon fibre. So there are no weight savings but that also means it's not as expensive as it would be if real carbon fibre parts would have been used.
The current price of the Yamaha R15 M stands at ₹ 1.97 lakh (ex-showroom). We project the Carbon Edition to surpass the ₹ 2 lakh mark and be priced at ₹ 2.2 lakh (ex-showroom). Would you be willing to invest over ₹ 2 lakh for a motorcycle with just a track-inspired look?
