The new Yamaha Tenere 700 gets a sharper look and might have improved handling.
The Yamaha Tenere 700 is slated for an generational update. The recent test mule sightings in Europe provide some intriguing clues about the forthcoming iteration. This is one of the most sought-after adventure bikes and the upcoming bike that has been spotted seems to take this legacy forward.
The front profile of the camoed-up prototypes of the new Yamaha Tenere 700 showcases a redesigned LED headlight. This gives it a sharper and more modern aesthetic. Additionally, new air intakes positioned below the headlight suggest potential tweaks to optimise engine breathability and performance.
While the powertrain remains a mystery for now, the next-generation Yamaha Tenere 700 is likely to retain the tried-and-tested 689cc, parallel-twin CP2 engine that currently delivers 73 bhp and 68 Nm of torque. This is paired with a trusty 6-speed gearbox. Let's hope that there's a subtle upgrade here as well.
The most significant upgrade lies in the chassis. The new Yamaha Tenere 700 ditches the existing rear suspension for a brand-new linkage-type system. This promises a more progressive feel and increased wheel travel, making the motorcycle even more capable of tackling challenging off-road terrain. However, the front fork appears similar to the current model.
The other major step up seems to be in the features department, which might see some exciting additions. Rumours suggest Yamaha might introduce a modern 5.0-inch colour TFT display, replacing the current LCD instrument cluster. This would provide riders with a clearer and more informative view of ride data. Furthermore, the integration of Yamaha's Y-Connect smartphone connectivity system could be another welcome upgrade. These potential upgrades would enhance the Yamaha Tenere 700's visual appeal and elevate the overall riding experience with improved functionality and connectivity.
The next-generation Yamaha Tenere 700 is expected to hit the international market sometime in the first half of 2025. Unfortunately, there's no inclination that Yamaha India might ride in the ADV and even if it does, it will be quite pricey. When it does arrive globally, the new Tenere 700 will continue to face competition from rivals like the Honda Transalp XL750, and Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, both of which are available in India.
