A blend of heritage and modernity
Yamaha Motor Europe unveiled the 2024 XSR900 GP, a nod to their sport heritage motorcycles with a mix of modern engineering and retro racings styling.
The XSR900 GP sports a YZR Grand Prix racer-inspired front fairing, a seat hump, and a slab-sided passenger seat cover. Continuing with the retro theme even the red, yellow and white colour combination pays homage to Yamaha’s iconic race bikes. Its ergonomics have been adjusted, with riser clip-on handlebars above the top yoke for a sportier riding position.
The XSR900 GP is powered by an 890cc, liquid-cooled, three-cylinder engine, delivering 117.3 bhp of power and 92 Nm of torque. It features a six-speed gearbox, an assist and slipper clutch, and Yamaha's third-gen quick-shifter. Notably, it includes standard cruise control.
The retro-styled racer features the iconic Deltabox frame which is finished in silver. The 2024 XSR900 GP comes with a fully adjustable KYB suspension on either end. The front suspension features a KYB upside-down fork, while the rear employs KYB link-type monoshock suspension.
Front brakes consist of dual calipers paired with 298mm brake discs. In the rear, a single caliper operates with a 245mm brake disc. The wheels are 17-inch forged aluminum units wrapped in Bridgestone Battlax Hypersport S23 tires.
A new five-inch full-color TFT display graces the XSR900 GP's dash, offering smartphone connectivity. It employs a six-axis IMU for advanced rider aids, such as lean-sensitive traction control, ABS, slide control, and wheelie control. It offers three preset riding modes (Sport, Street, Rain) and a customizable mode.
Initially launched in European and UK markets, Yamaha hasn't disclosed pricing yet but we expect a formal announcement at the upcoming 2023 EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy. Yamaha's 2024 XSR900 GP combines modern power with a touch of classic design. Whether this model makes its way to other markets remains uncertain, but the mix of heritage and modernity is undoubtedly appealing to motorcycle enthusiasts.
