You Can Now Buy A VIP Registration For Your Vehicle Online In Maharashtra

The process of getting VIP registration numbers for your new two- or four-wheeler has become more streamlined in Maharashtra. You can now apply for a VIP registration on the Parhivahan website and make payments online. This process earlier required a physical visit to the Regional Transport Office (RTO). 

Now one needs to visit the Parivahan portal and complete the registration using an email ID or phone number. Once in the portal, one can select from a list of available numbers and their corresponding price tags. The VIP number will only be allotted once the payment is confirmed and the receipt has to be given to the car dealer to get the registration fixed on the car. 

Maharashtra has also revised the fee for VIP numbers. The much-sought-after ‘1’ number now attracts a fee of ₹ 6 lakh in Mumbai for four-wheelers, compared to ₹4 lakh previously. The fee for the ‘1’ number has also been hiked for two-wheelers, and it now costs ₹1 lakh compared to ₹50,000. Furthermore, numbers like ‘0009’, ‘0099’ and ‘9999’ attract a fee of ₹2.5 lakh for four-wheelers and ₹50,000 for two- and three-wheelers. The increased cost is to help the state government fetch more revenue. An official told the Times of India (TOI) that the fascination for VIP numbers began in northern India and has gradually become more popular in other states. 

Furthermore, Maharashtra has also made high-security registration plates (HSRP) mandatory. The government says HSRP will help increase vehicle safety and help fight vehicle-related crimes.
