This electric bike from the Bengaluru-based startup, Zeno, will cater to customers of 100-150 cc motorcycles.

Former senior members of Ola Electric, Ather, Tesla, and Apple have joined hands to form a new start-up based out of Bengaluru called Zeno. The first product to come out of this company is an electric motorcycle called Emara priced at ₹64,000 ( introductory ex-showroom price). “With the Emara, we’ve built a sport utility motorcycle that’s tough enough for a full day’s work… and flexible enough to charge however and wherever our customers need,” pointed out Michael Spencer, CEO of Zeno.

The Zeno Emara is powered by a 4 kWh battery, which one can avail it bundled with the bike, or separately as a service (BaaS), just like how MG Motors does it with the Windsor EV. Zeno is offering two BaaS subscription options: prepaid and postpaid. The first option has been further segregated into two plans: Basic and Advanced. With the Basic plan, one will need to pay ₹1,500 per month for just 48 kWh of energy usage, and with the Advanced plan, the energy dividend will increase to 120 kWh but will cost you ₹2,500 per month. If either of these plans sounds overboard, then one can go for the Postpaid option, wherein one will just have to pay ₹52 per kWh as per usage.

The Zeno Emara has quite the rugged stance.

The batteries are removable, and customers can either swap them for a fully charged one at a dedicated Zeno charging station, provided one chooses BaaS. But if one doesn’t have access to a Zeno swapping station nearby, then one can instead fast charge the battery at any public charging station using a Type 6 charger, or simply charge at home. The fast charger takes 1.5 hours to charge the battery fully, while the home charger takes 6 hours to charge the battery fully. But if one avails the bike with the battery, then they cannot avail swapping service, but will have access to fast charging and home charging options.

The 4 kWh battery is good for 120 km of IDC range (100 km of claimed real-world range). The battery powers an 8 kW electric motor that can propel the Emara to a top speed of 95 kmph. To extract the full range of this performance, the Emara is available with four ride modes.

Besides the fully digital instrument console, the Zeno Emara is also available with type C charging port.

The overall design is very typical of a commuter bike, but there are elements that give it a more rugged stance, for example, the high-rise mudguard and small windscreen. The Emara has a long single-piece seat and with a ground clearance of 190 mm, it is practical enough to ride over any speed hump or pothole with ease. The Emara can carry up to 250 kg of load, and can even ride at a 30-degree incline. Lastly, Zeno is also offering several storage accessories, which, when equipped, can store up to 150 litres of luggage onboard. On the features front, there’s a 6.30-inch fully digital display, but there’s no Bluetooth connectivity on offer here.

The Zeno Emara with the battery costs ₹1.19 lakh (standard ex-showroom price), and without it, it will set you back by ₹79,000 (standard ex-showroom). However, for the first 20,000 orders, Zeno is offering flat discounts ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹19,000/₹15,000. Zeno will initially retail the Emara in Bengaluru, and pre-orders for the same have already commenced for a token amount of just ₹999.
