This AMG GLE 53 isn't just a modern marvel, it's a nod to the golden era of German sports sedans.
Once synonymous with "beefy V8 beasts," the AMG badge now orchestrates a symphony of power that ranges from a 300 bhp four-banger to a plug-in hybrid boasting a jaw-dropping 1000 Nm of torque. From electric jolts to a lightning-fast 3-second sprint to 100 kmph, the only constant is the genius brewing in Affalterbach. In their latest sorcery with the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53, they've spun gold from an inline-six, a turbocharger, an electric supercharger, and a 48-volt electric motor. With the 2024 edition, radiation bows to the wizards of speed.
Now, for the GLE53's starring role in the modern AMG power saga: "If it's got an electric motor and can tear up the road, we're all in." In the 2024 edition, a larger turbocharger cranks up the torque game from 520 to 560 Nm, and let's not forget the 48-volt electric motor and the electric supercharger playing tag with turbo lag. Flooring it unleashes power like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat – no evidence of lag, just pure, unbridled acceleration.
Displacement | 2999 cc |
Max Power | 430 bhp @6100 rpm |
Peak Torque | 560 Nm @1,800-5,800 rpm |
Transmission | 9-Speed AT |
0-100 kmph | 5 seconds |
Top Speed | 250 kmph |
And the AMG GLE unleashes pure power, without any lag. That’s like a hippo behaving like a cheetah, yeah believe it!! The lack of drama at the launch, makes the 0-100 run feel both effortless and unhurried.
There's plenty of urgency, though, when you smash the brake pedal from 100 kmph. The AMG brakes and the chunky Michelin tyres are always in sync. There's also a proper dead pedal space for the left leg. In corners, the AMG GLE hangs on with a nice lateral grip. The 9-speed automatic transmission waltzes through the gears. But the unsung hero is the suspension. The adaptive suspension helps keep body movements in check without making the people inside uncomfortable.
While the suspension gracefully tangoes between comfort and command. The Michelin Pilot Sport 275/45 ZR 21-inch tyres are not as forgiving. Hit a pothole, and the impact is very evident on the inside. Those Michelins? Noisy road companions to be honest with loud thuds that'll make you wish for earplugs. The side walls of the tyres are wide though, so no worries there.
The active exhaust is now the official party animal. Thumb the engine-start button, and it's not a subtle entrance. It's fierce but a tad bit loud for some. I for one, LOVE IT! The AMG Performance steering wheel, now part of the standard gig gets a cockpit command centre at your fingertips. The two dials let you choose the drive modes and tweak the stability control, active exhaust, and suspension stiffness. Dial it down, and the SUV transforms into a luxury lounge on wheels.
Meet the GLE53 – not quite the alpha, not the omega, but the spicy middle child of Mercedes' midsize SUV lineup. In a move that shouts, "We care, okay?" the 430 bhp sibling gets a 2024 refresh. While the exterior tweaks play a game of "spot the difference," subtle upgrades lurk beneath the surface. This midsize marvel didn't beg for improvement, but the caretakers decided to spoil it anyway.
The silhouette won't win any awards, but hey, there's a touch of nostalgia with that rear-pillar nod to the old ML class – a bit like spotting an old friend in a new suit. Now, let's talk AMG magic – the big grille, the cross-spoked wheels, and enough badging to make a statement at a car enthusiast's party. The gloss black isn't just for tuxedos. It's for the splitter, apron, window trim, mirror housing, roof rails, and even the exhaust in black chrome – talk about a blackout extravaganza. It's not just a car; it's a statement, dressed to impress.
The big grille, the cross-spoked wheels, and the numerous AMG badges are hard to miss. The silhouette is reminiscent of the old ML class but in a new suit.
Step inside the GLE 53, and it's a plush party rivalling its brawnier sibling, the AMG GLE 63 S. Thanks to the newfound love for Nappa leather, the seats are now heated, ventilated, and downright throne-like. Mercedes didn't stop at the seating arrangements; the entire cabin oozes opulence and German precision – think Burmester audio, a panoramic sunroof, and a surround-view system that practically makes you a vehicular wizard with a camera peeking under the hood.
The cockpit gets not one but two 12.3-inch screens – it's like having a pair of digital twin wizards at your command. The driver gets a front-row seat to a tech extravaganza, where information flows in vibrant hues and the interface plays a symphony of intuition. It's not just a dashboard; it's a tech utopia, where every piece of data gets a starring role on the touchscreen and digital instrument cluster stage.
Usually, with coupes, cabin space is its biggest Achilles Heel. But the GLE 53 hits the sweet spot with its practicality.
Length | 4961 mm |
Width | 2014 mm |
Height | 1716 mm |
Wheelbase | 2935 mm |
Ground Clearance | 190 mm |
It won't dwarf you when you're flying solo. Slide to the back, and the rear seat plays host to adults with the right amount of space for your next road trip meeting.
Adding the plethora of safety tech on board will make you feel thoroughly secure with its 9 airbags, 12 sensors, and 360° surround camera. Along with a slew of active and passive safety features such as an exit warning function, Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, transparent bonnet, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) make your everyday life easier.
An AMG GLE flirting with its earlier Rs. 1.71 crore (ex-showroom, India) price tag would’ve raised an eyebrow back in the day. But it's a different story now. Tech? Check. Luxurious interior? Double check. LED lights and a panoramic sunroof? Standard, my friend. Now sprinkle in that AMG magic, and suddenly the high price doesn’t pinch your wallets.

---|---|---|---|---|
Prices (ex-showroom, India) | ₹1.80 crore (EXPECTED) | ₹1.41- 2.57 crore | ₹1.21 crore | ₹2.22 crore |
As it rivals the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, BMW X6 and Audi RSQ8 in this niche space, we expect the price to now hover around the Rs. 1.80 crore (ex-showroom, India) mark. In its 2024 avatar, the AMG GLE 53 isn't just a car. It’s you paying for the entertainment in your busy life. OTT platforms beware!!
