Vehicle Registration in Telangana RTO

For vehicle registration, most individuals prefer to complete the process at their auto dealer's office, ensuring it is done before taking the vehicle home. However, some choose to handle the registration through the TS RTO to ensure everything is done correctly. To register a vehicle offline, visit the nearest R.T.O. office. For online registration, go to T.S. Transport Registration official website-

https://www.transport.telangana.gov.in/html/registration.html.

Documents Required for Permanent Registration in Telangana RTO

Visit the nearest R.T.O. office and request Form 20. Fill it out with all the required information. Additionally, you need to include the following documents:

  • The provisional registration document issued by your vehicle dealer

  • Address proof

  • Proof of payment for the registration fees

  • The car's sale certificate

  • P.U.C. authorisation

  • A photocopy of your P.A.N. card

  • Coloured passport-size photographs

  • If you purchased your vehicle through a bank loan, you must also submit Form 34

After you complete the form and attach the necessary documents, an official will verify everything. Once the verification is complete and the required fees have been paid, you will be issued a smart card as your registration certificate. The smart card will be delivered to your address within a few days.

How to Get a Permanent Registration Certificate in Telangana?

Follow these steps to complete the registration process for your new or existing vehicle with the Telangana R.T.O.:

Step 1: Obtain Application for Registration - Form 20

Form 20 is the application form for vehicle registration that the vehicle owner must complete. It includes information such as:

  • Personal details (name, address, phone number, etc.)

  • Vehicle category

  • Fuel type

  • Engine and chassis specifications

  • Vehicle cost

  • Vehicle insurance details

  • Information about the selling dealer

Form 20 can be obtained online from the Transport Department website or the R.T.O. office.

Step 2: Fill out Form 20 with vehicle and owner details

The vehicle owner should meticulously complete all sections of Form 20 without leaving any field blank to prevent complications later. Ensure that the 17-character chassis number is entered accurately as specified in the vehicle invoice.

Step 3: Submit Form 20 along with supporting documents

Here are the essential documents needed along with the registration application Form 20:

  • Proof of owner's identity and address: Aadhaar card, P.A.N. card, etc.

  • Copy of P.A.N. card

  • Vehicle invoice from the selling dealer

  • Valid insurance certificate

  • Emission test certificate issued by an authorised centre

  • Copy of the old R.C. (Registration Certificate) for renewals

Ensure to provide self-attested photocopies of these documents. Invalid or incomplete documents may cause delays in the registration process.

Step 4: Pay the registration fees and applicable taxes

The required registration charges and road taxes must be paid at the R.T.O., which include:

  • Registration fees: Rs. 600 for new two-wheelers and Rs. 1200 for new four-wheelers

  • Road tax: Ranges from 9% to 20% of the vehicle's cost price

  • Trade certificate fee: Applicable if purchasing from a dealer

  • Fee for temporary registration: Required if it is not a fresh registration

  • Green tax: Applicable to transport vehicles older than 8 years

The R.T.O. calculates these taxes based on the details provided in Form 20. Payment can be made via demand draft, cash, or debit/credit card at the R.T.O.

Step 5: Get your vehicle inspected by the R.T.O.

After submitting Form 20 and the required documents, the R.T.O. will schedule an inspection date for your vehicle. On the appointed day, you must bring your vehicle to the R.T.O. premises. During the inspection, the R.T.O. inspector will:

  • Verify vehicle details against the submitted documents

  • Inspect critical safety components

  • Check for unauthorised modifications

  • Conduct emission testing using meters

  • Take photographs of the vehicle

  • Assign engine and chassis numbers if not already engraved

Step 6: Collect the registration certificate (R.C. book) from R.T.O.

If your vehicle passes the R.T.O. inspection, you can expect to receive the registration certificate (R.C. book) within 1-2 weeks. This document will include the assigned registration number for your vehicle.
