Tata Motors will commence bookings for the Nexon facelift from September 4.
Tata Motors has unveiled the heavily updated Nexon. It comes with changes both inside and outside. As far as the exterior is concerned, the Nexon draws heavily from the Curvv and Harrier EV concepts. The front fascia has been completely redesigned to make way for a more muscular and modern look in comparison to the outgoing model. Like the Harrier and Safari, the sleek DRLs sit above the headlamps.
Lower down, the C-shaped protrusions house the headlights on each side, and then the grille below doesn’t have the Y-shaped design like the previous model. Overall, it makes for a much cleaner look and should appeal to the masses, just like the original design of the Nexon. Around the sides, there isn’t much change apart from the updated alloy wheel design. However, there’s a significant change at the back.
There’s a connected LED tail light, which also doubles as LED DRLs with their own unique pattern, along with a more vertical housing for the reflectors. The lower side of the bumper, which has space for the number plate, also closely resembles the Harrier and Safari. The roof-mounted spoiler has been given a slight tweak as well and now houses the rear wiper, similar to the Hyundai Tucson. That’s not all, though, Tata Motors has significantly updated the interior as well.
One of the most significant changes on the inside has to be the two-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo. Again, the interiors draw heavily from the Curvv concept. The dashboard has been redesigned heavily with sleeker AC vents and a touch-based HVAC control panel. There’s also a wireless charger on offer, along with an air purifier and buttons near the IRVM for an emergency call or breakdown call, as well.
The top-end Nexon gets a 10.25-inch floating infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while the lower ones still make do with the 7-inch touchscreen from the outgoing model. Tata has also fitted the Nexon facelift with a 9-speaker JBL system with a subwoofer. The instrument cluster is also now digital, just like the gear knob for the automatic variants, but the drive mode selector is still a rotary unit just like the manual handbrake.
The Nexon facelift will be available in 7 trims, drawing names similar to that of the Punch. These include the Smart, Smart+, Pure, Creative, Creative+, Fearless and Fearless+ (S) trims. The (S) denotes a single-pane sunroof variant while the ‘+’ refers to the optional add-on packages mentioned earlier. The sunroof also gets voice commands for easier access. The updated Nexon will come with 6 airbags, ESP and seat belt reminders for people on the rear seats as standard.
As far as powertrains go, the Nexon carries over the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine which produces 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. It will get a 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCT gearbox. Tata Motors has also retained the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel motor which churns out 113 bhp and 260 Nm of torque. This particular engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT.
The Tata Nexon facelift will be launched on September 14, 2023. Once it arrives, it will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300. Expect the Nexon facelift to carry a significant increase in price given the kind of upgrade the sub-4-metre compact SUV has received this time. This will certainly help make the Nexon facelift’s case stronger in the segment.
