The upcoming launch of the 2024 BMW 5-Series in India has generated significant buzz, with recent sightings near Chennai's Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) suggesting an imminent debut before the festive season. While initial speculation leaned towards the possibility of the long-wheelbase variant, recent reports hint at the standard wheelbase version making its entry into the market.

The eighth generation of the BMW 5-Series showcases a refreshed design language, characterised by sharper styling cues that have sparked varied opinions. Inside, similarities to the new generation 7-Series are apparent, with the introduction of the BMW Curved Display featuring prominently. This system includes a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display, powered by the latest BMW Operating System 8.5.

Performance-wise, expect a choice between 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, complemented by a mild-hybrid system. Additionally, there are reports of an electric variant, the i5 eDrive40, boasting an 81.2 kWh battery and 582 km on a single charge.

In the Indian luxury sedan market, the 2024 BMW 5-Series will face stiff competition from rivals like the new generation Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6, Volvo S90, and Lexus ES.
