The fourth-gen Swift gets a new engine with mild-hybrid tech, four-wheel drive and a CVT.
After unveiling the car at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, Suzuki revealed the fourth-gen Swift's powertrain details. While we already knew that the new Swift would get a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine, we now know its power output and fuel efficiency figures.
The new petrol engine produces 80 bhp and 108 Nm of torque. It also gets the ISG (integrated starter generator) type of mild hybrid system. The electric motor provides an additional boost of 3 bhp and 60 Nm. The Swift will get two gearbox options – a CVT and a 5-speed manual – and will also get the option of front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. While the front-wheel drive versions get the option of the manual gearbox, the four-wheel drive versions are only available with the CVT.
Suzuki also revealed the fuel efficiency figures of the new fourth-gen Swift. It ranges between 22 kmpl and 25.4 kmpl, depending on the variant.
Variant | Fuel efficiency |
---|---|
Hybrid 2WD MT | 25.4 kmpl |
Hybrid 2WD CVT | 24.5 kmpl |
Hybrid 4WD CVT | 22.7 kmpl |
Petrol 2WD CVT | 23.4 kmpl |
Petrol 4WD CVT | 22 kmpl |
For reference, the third-gen Swift available in India gets a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine producing 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. It also gets the choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT and is solely available with a front-wheel drive system. The Swift manual has a fuel efficiency of 22.38 kmpl, while the AMT returns 22.56 kmpl.
While the India-spec model is likely to get the new three-cylinder engine, it remains to be seen with which configuration it will come with. It will continue with the 5-speed manual gearbox and could get the CVT but that is yet to be confirmed.
Prices for the fourth-gen Swift range between JPY 1.727 million and JPY 2.437 million (roughly ₹9.84 lakh and ₹13.87 lakh). In India, the third-gen model is priced between ₹5.99 lakh and ₹8.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expect the upcoming Swift to be priced at a slight premium compared to the current model.
