These new colour introductions will take a while to come to India.
Yamaha has injected a shot of colour into its popular MT lineup with new options for the 2024 MT-03 and MT-25 motorcycles. While these bold new colour options hit showrooms globally after July 30, 2024, Indian riders will have to wait a bit longer for the fresh look.
Yamaha's MT series is instantly recognisable for its sharp lines and menacing front look. While the MT-03 offered a "pastel dark grey" with pops of cyan and red in the past, this year embraces a bolder "dark grey" with cyan and grey accents, mirroring the look of its bigger siblings, the MT-09, 07, and MT-10. This new colour scheme instantly ties the MT-03 to the MT family heritage. The update also brings in two entirely new colour options, Dark Bluish Gray Metallic and Deep Purplish Blue Metallic, which are available for both the MT-03 and the MT-25. These vibrant additions complement the existing blue and matte dark grey choices, giving riders of both MT models a total of three colour options to personalise their ride within the MT's new, darker theme. These colours offer a classic, understated look.
Both Yamaha MT models come equipped with a fully digital LCD instrument cluster. This digital display offers a clear and concise view of a wide range of information, including fuel gauge, gear position, coolant temperature, real-time and average fuel economy, trip metres, and clock. Additionally, the digital instrument cluster often comes with adjustable brightness settings, making it easy to see the information in all lighting conditions, whether riding on a sunny day or a night. It does lack a bit of tech in terms of Bluetooth and connected features. Also on the performance-affecting features, it does not get a quick shifter or rider mode and not even ABS modes. These are some things that we see on the smaller Yamaha R15 In India.
The MT-03 packs a punch with its 321cc twin-cylinder engine that delivers 41.4 bhp and 29.5 Nm of torque. The MT-25 offers a thrilling ride with its 249cc twin-cylinder engine producing 35 bhp and 22.6 Nm of torque. Both come equipped with 6-speed gearboxes for smooth power delivery. Both these engines have a 180-degree firing order which is not so appealing in terms of exhaust note. It does have nice top-end performance because of this firing order.
Both the MT-03 and MT-25 have a lightweight diamond frame chassis that contributes to their impressive handling. The diamond frame design is known for its rigidity and stability, providing a solid foundation for the motorcycle's handling. They tip the scales at just 167 kg, making them incredibly nimble and responsive. Both bikes feature KYB suspension at both ends.
These exciting aesthetic options won't affect the price tag in Japan. The MT-03 will stay put at 687,500 yen (Approx ₹ 3.5 lakh), while the MT-25 remains at $3953.03 (Approx ₹ 3.2 lakh). Yamaha anticipates enthusiastic rider reception, projecting annual sales of 1,200 units.
While the global MT-03 lineup gets a colour update, Indian riders will have to wait a bit longer. The MT-03 was just launched in India in December 2023 with only Midnight Black and Midnight Cyan colour options. The prices are high for this motorcycle at ₹ 4 59 900 (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Yamaha is not seeing great numbers with the current competition. Also, the product is technically not new in terms of engine so it has no novelty left. The new colour variants are expected to hit Indian showrooms sometime later this year. However, the MT-25 is not yet available in India and we do not think Yamaha is expected to bring it any time soon.
