Land Rover has confirmed the launch of the Defender Octa in India on March 26, 2025. First revealed in July 2024, the Octa is positioned as the most powerful and off-road-capable version of the Defender, featuring several mechanical upgrades. The SUV is set to be priced from ₹2.65 crore (ex-showroom, India). In India, the Defender Octa will directly rival the Mercedes-AMG G63, which is priced at ₹3.6 crore (ex-showroom).
A key addition to the Defender Octa is the 6D Dynamics suspension system, which eliminates the need for a physical anti-roll bar by hydraulically linking the dampers. This system is claimed to "virtually eliminate" pitch and body roll on-road while enhancing wheel articulation in off-road conditions.
The Octa also receives reinforced wishbones, extended underbody protection, a 28mm increase in ground clearance, and a 100 mm improvement in wading depth. Other upgrades include a bespoke drive setting with an off-road launch mode and the quickest steering rack of any Defender to date.
In terms of off-road capability, the new front and rear bumpers improve the maximum approach angle by 2.5 degrees, the departure angle by 2 degrees, and the breakover angle by 1.1 degrees. The maximum wheel articulation has been increased to 569 mm, up from the standard Defender 110's 430 mm.
Exclusively available in the 110 body style, the Defender Octa distinguishes itself with flared wheel arches, a redesigned front skid plate with fewer perforations, a more open front grille, and a ground clearance of 319 mm. Additional design cues include bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels with all-season tyres, an 'Octa' badge on the C-pillar, and a gloss black roof and tailgate.
Buyers can choose from four exclusive paint options: Carpathian Grey, Charente Grey, Faroe Green, and Petra CoppThey can also order matte finishes with protective filmsfilm.
Inside, the Octa is equipped with new performance seats featuring a 3D-knit texture, integrated headrests, and enhanced bolstering. The cabin also boasts Burnt Sienna semi-aniline leather upholstery, an 11.4-inch infotainment system, and a fridge embedded in the centre console. Additionally, Land Rover has introduced Body and Soul Seat audio technology, which uses haptic motors in the seats to vibrate in sync with the music.
Powering the Defender Octa is a 4.4-litre BMW-derived mild-hybrid V8 engine, producing 626 bhp and 750 Nm of torque. In off-road launch mode, torque output increases to 800 Nm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kmph.
