Both bikes are powered by the brand new V2 engine, which is touted to be the lightest of its kind.
Barely days after Ducati showcased to the world its brand new V2 engine, which it claims is the lightest engine of its kind to date. The Bologna-based manufacturer has now unveiled the first duo of red bikes that this new engine will power. And without much surprise, it's the new 2024 Ducati Panigale V2 and the Streetfighter V2. After the 2025 Panigale V4, the advent of its subsequent V2 model was expected. However, unlike the V4 which sees a significant boost in performance, and equipment – the situation is kind of reversed with the V2 bikes.
Yes, unlike the outgoing Superquadro engine which was producing around 150 bhp, the new V2 engine produces just 120 bhp. However, Ducati has placed a strong emphasis on weight reduction, with the Panigale V2 S tipping the scales at 176 kg and the Streetfighter V2 S even lighter at 175kg - a significant drop from their nearly 200 kg predecessors.
Both models utilise an aluminium monocoque frame and conventional double-sided swingarm, a departure from the signature Ducati single-sided design. Suspension components vary between the standard and S variants, with the latter boasting Öhlins units at both ends and the former gets KYB units.
But unlike the chassis and underpinnings which are completely new, the body work of the Panigale V2 clearly wreaks of inspiration. Just like the outgoing models it looks so similar to the bigger Panigale V4, except for those big winglets. The front end now looks smoother, devoid of unnecessary cuts and creases – all in all a much better polished feel. The Streetfighter V2 retains its muscular appeal, and the body work is characterised by deep cuts and creases. The front section now also looks sharper than before.
Complimenting this new body style in both bikes is the new MotoGP-styled exhaust. Which can be further upgraded to race-only exhausts from Termignoni which helps add another 6 bhp to the mix in the new Panigale V2.
In line with modern performance standards, the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 come equipped with a comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids, including riding modes, traction control, ABS, wheelie control, engine braking control, and a bidirectional quickshifter. Optional tech packs can further enhance the experience with cruise control, lap timer, turn-by-turn navigation, and heated grips, all displayed on a 5-inch TFT dashboard.
Ducati has strategically positioned these new V2 models as more manageable and accessible alternatives to their high-powered predecessors. It slots in a segment which includes alternatives like Yamaha's 890cc triple-cylinder offerings - MT-09 and the newly launched R9, and KTM's latest 990cc parallel-twin models -the 990 Duke. Ducati enthusiasts in India can look forward to the arrival of these new V2 models in the market sometime next year.
