Kia India is gearing up to introduce the facelifted version of the Carens MPV next month, followed by the launch of its all-electric counterpart in June. The 2025 Carens facelift is set to receive substantial design updates along with improvements to its feature set, while the Carens EV will adopt a similar look with EV-specific modifications.
Spy shots of the upcoming Carens facelift suggest a revised design, with a raised bonnet line lending it a more SUV-like stance. The front end is expected to draw inspiration from Kia’s Syros model, featuring updated headlights and daytime running lamps. At the rear, vertically stacked taillights connected by an LED light bar are anticipated. The test prototype also showcased newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels, although they appear to retain the existing 16-inch size.
The Carens EV will largely mirror the facelifted model but with some unique design elements, such as a closed-off front grille and aerodynamically optimized wheels to enhance efficiency.
While interior spy shots have not yet surfaced, the Carens facelift is expected to carry minor updates to the dashboard layout, control switches, and toggles—likely borrowing elements from the Kia Seltos. Notable additions to the top-spec variants may include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera.
For the Carens EV, the interior is expected to remain mostly unchanged from the facelifted version but could feature distinctive trims and highlights to differentiate it from its petrol and diesel-powered counterparts. Given the EV’s battery pack placement, it remains to be seen how Kia manages interior space, especially in the second and third-row seating.
The Carens facelift will continue with the existing engine lineup, which are a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 113 bhp, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 158 bhp, available with a 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and a 1.5-litre diesel engine generating 114 bhp, offered with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the Carens EV is expected to share its powertrain with the recently launched Hyundai Creta Electric. The Creta EV offers two battery pack options, a 42 kWh battery with a MIDC-certified range of 390 km and a 51.4 kWh battery providing a range of 473 km. Given the Carens EV’s larger size and weight compared to the Creta Electric, its real-world range may be slightly lower.
Currently, the Kia Carens is priced between ₹10.60 lakh and ₹19.70 lakh (ex-showroom). With the facelift, prices are expected to see a marginal increase, placing the updated MPV in the ₹11 lakh-20 lakh range. In terms of competition, the Carens’ lower variants rival the Maruti Ertiga (₹8.84 lakh-13.13 lakh) and Toyota Rumion (₹10.54 lakh-13.83 lakh), while its higher trims overlap with models such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector.
For the Carens EV, pricing is anticipated to start at around ₹18 lakh, with top-end variants possibly competing with the BYD eMax 7, which is priced between ₹26.90 lakh and ₹29.90 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India).
