After its scooters, Yamaha’s mild hybrid tech makes its way onto its motorcycles as well.
Yamaha has updated the FZ-S for 2025, which sees the bike gain a few new features. Some of these were already found on the brand’s scooter range till now. Here’s what’s new:
Yamaha’s smart hybrid technology has been appreciated for being simply clever. It sees the usage of a Smart Motor Generator (SMG), and a Stop and Start System (SSS). The former uses the engine’s alternator to start the motor and also provide minor boost during acceleration. And as we have experienced the engine start/stop tech on other two-wheelers so far, the same killing the ignition at idle to save fuel functionality is found here as well.
To keep matters refreshing, Yamaha has slightly updated the styling of the bike. Besides introducing two new colour options, Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey, the Japanese brand has also tweaked the shape of that muscular tank design. The front turn indicators have been integrated onto the faux air intake-cum-tank extensions.
The Yamaha FZ-S was always a comfortable bike for city commutes and the credit goes to its neutral ergonomics. For 2025, Yamaha has repositioned the handlebar for a comfier upper body stance, and the switchgear has been redesigned making it more intuitive.
For 2025, the Yamaha FZ-S has gained a brand new 4.2-inch TFT console. With the debut of this new unit, Yamaha has now also introduced additional smartphone connectivity features including turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alert, etc, all via the Yamaha Y-Connect app.
All of these additions above have increased the asking price by ₹10,000, this version of the commuter now retailing at ₹1,44,800 (ex-showroom Delhi). This is a pretty serious hike for the fuel saving aid as well as the dash update. So, while Yamaha has tried to modernise its commuter, the basic ethos of a simple and easy to ride bike remains untampered.
