The new Hilux will offer a brand new design language and an updated interior that’s a lot more premium than the outgoing model.

Toyota has confirmed that the next-gen Hilux will launch in India on July 28, 2026. The new model made its global debut in November 2025.

The 2026 Toyota Hilux features a contemporary design language with a bolder, more upright stance and improved aerodynamics. The front fascia is characterised by slim horizontal LED headlamps linked by a central panel with prominent Toyota lettering, while the electric version sports a closed-off grille.

Retaining the Double Cab body style, the utility vehicle adds redesigned side steps and an integrated rear deck step for better cargo bed access. Additionally, electric power steering is now available in several markets to enhance low-speed manoeuvrability and minimise steering kickback during off-road excursions.

Inside, the cabin undergoes a major overhaul inspired by the newest Land Cruiser range, boasting a cleaner dashboard layout, superior materials, and a focus on digital tech. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is coupled with a central touchscreen infotainment system of equal size. The premium package further includes wireless smartphone charging, multiple USB ports, and connected vehicle features.

The most significant global development is the introduction of the Hilux BEV, the brand's first fully electric pickup. Fitted with a 59.2 kWh battery pack and dual electric motors, this electric model provides permanent all-wheel drive, a payload capacity of approximately 715 kg, and a towing limit of roughly 1,600 kg.

However, for the Indian market, the 48V mild-hybrid diesel version remains the more probable candidate. This setup combines the proven 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a compact hybrid system intended to boost refinement, throttle response, and fuel economy. The diesel unit produces 201 bhp of power and 500 Nm of peak torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

We expect this lifestyle pickup truck to cost upwards of ₹40 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
