From the launch of a new roadster, to the world’s first CNG motorcycle reaching its first milestone.
The first few days of the month are quite crucial for the automotive industry, especially for the second-largest auto segment in the country – two-wheelers. OEMs are dishing out its last month’s sales performance, and now and then, a manufacturer will launch a new and crucial product. That’s exactly what happened this week, too, between September 2-6, 2024:
Starting with the new launch, Classic Legends has been at it back-to-back. After the BSA Gold Star 650 comes the new Jawa 42 FJ. Just like the iconic BSA, the new 42 FJ hits the nostalgia factor, too, in a tribute form to its founder, František Janeček. Although new, not completely, though – the engine is the larger 334 cc, Alpha-2 series single-liquid-cooled mill, the instrument cluster remains the standard fully digital without Bluetooth connectivity, etc. All of which barely scratches the surface. For a more detailed report, head to the launch report here.
The EV scene has been booming in India, and while the momentum was initially carried forward by new entrants like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, etc. For a significant number of months, legacy manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, TVS, and Bajaj Auto were missing out on this action in the EV space. However, that seems to be changing now, and the landscape is evolving rapidly. What all are contributing to this change, and how? Find it out here.
Bajaj has been on a constant update spree with its Chetak brand. In a short span of time, the Chetak badge has expanded to accommodate several new variants, priced quite competitively, hovering around the ₹1 lakh mark, and with different battery options. What initially started its journey with just two variants it's now available in 5 new variants. It started with 2901, followed by 3201, and now, finally, the Bajaj Chetak 3202 has been launched. The last two share the same new 3.2 kWh battery, which Bajaj claims allows it to deliver better range. How so? Find it out here.
Hero MotoCorp, on the other hand, decided to silently update its most popular offering, the Splendor+ Xtec, with a disc brake on its front wheel. Not that it needed it, though, for the existing Combi-Brake system was effective enough. However, the addition of a disc brake does make matters reassuringly safe. For all the details of the bike, read our launch report here.
Yup, the world’s first CNG motorcycle has already raked up 5,000 sales in just a month of its launch. Although that might not sound quite the much because the bike costs around ₹1.10 lakh only – however, when you factor in the fact that the bike initially went on sale in just two states of India – Maharashtra and Gujarat, it does sound encouraging. How did Bajaj Auto manage to achieve that? Find that out here.
