Nissan has unveiled its latest fully electric vehicle, the brand-new Nissan Micra, a compact car that aims to bring fresh energy to the small car market. The new Micra shares its platform with the forthcoming Renault 5, a product of the ongoing partnership between Nissan and Renault. Designed by Nissan’s London office, the vehicle is set to launch later this year.
The new Micra will be offered with two battery options: a 40 kWh and a 52 kWh variant. Nissan is targeting a maximum range of approximately 400km for the larger battery, aligning with the figures expected from its Renault counterpart.
Though the Micra features a similarly boxy silhouette to the Renault 5, Nissan has integrated design elements inspired by its own heritage to create a distinct identity. The company has emphasized that the new model remains true to the "DNA of its predecessors" through a philosophy of "simplicity," though further details on this approach have yet to be disclosed.
The introduction of the new Micra forms part of Nissan's broader strategy to reinvigorate its global lineup. This initiative includes the launch of the third-generation Leaf, the development of a next-generation hybrid powertrain known as "e-Power," updates to combustion-engine models across different markets, and new vehicles such as a minivan and Kei car tailored for Japan. Additionally, Nissan is focusing on revitalising its Infiniti brand in the United States and introducing a new iteration of the Juke for the European market.
