But the priority right now is the Curvv EV followed by the Harrier EV and then the Sierra.
Tata Motors has not ruled out the launch of the Altroz EV in India. It is waiting for the right time to introduce it. In an exclusive interview with Acko Drive, Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Head-Marketing, Sales and Service Strategy, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said, “We have displayed it (Altroz EV) at the Auto Expo in 2020. We probably wouldn't have displayed it if we did not want to get it but it's only a matter of time because we have to prioritise.”
Tata Motors has been launching a host of SUVs in the Indian market. The company now has an extensive electric portfolio which comprises the Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Nexon. This year itself, the company will add the electric Curvv to this lineup and that will be the company’s 5th car in its EV portfolio, making it an SUV-dominated one.
Srivatsa said, “We have already shown Harrier and Sierra and like you said SUVs are very important and also the fact that we need to liberate larger battery packs means we have to go to the larger format cars now.”
The Altroz EV project, therefore has been put on the backburner and though we have been told that the launch will happen soon, there is no timeline put on it yet. The priority right now is the Curvv EV followed by the Harrier EV and then the Sierra. While the Altroz EV is still a work in progress, the Racer edition of the car with the turbo petrol engine, will be out very soon.
