The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are now more powerful, but there are no design changes with this generation.

Rounding out three days of back-to-back announcements, Apple has unveiled a completely revamped MacBook Pro lineup with all models powered by its current-gen M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max processors. The MacBook Pro also starts with 16GB of RAM standard across all variants. All previous models have been discontinued. Aside from the new internals, very little has changed about the design of the MacBook Pro. It still comes in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes. Pre-orders are open now in India, with sales beginning on November 8.

Prices in India start at ₹1,69,900 for the 14-inch model with an M4 SoC, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. Options with the M4 Pro start at ₹1,99,900, with 24GB as the base amount of RAM. Buyers choosing a M4 Max model will get 36GB of RAM and 1TB of storage minimum, but this will cost ₹3,19,900 before customisation. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is available only with an M4 Pro (24GB/512GB) or M4 Max (36GB/1TB), starting at ₹2,49,900 and ₹3,49,900 respectively.

RAM and storage upgrade pricing and availability varies depending on base configuration. Buyers can get up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage with an M4 processor, but those figures go up to 128GB of RAM and 8TB of storage with an M4 Pro or M4 Max.

Different variants are bundled with different power adapters, ranging from 70W to 140W. 96W is the minimum for fast charging, and can be added instead of a 70W adapter on the M4 variants for ₹1,700. Apple is offering a matte “nano-texture” display option on the MacBook Pro for the first time, priced at ₹15,000 extra across the entire lineup.

The M4 SoC has 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. While the M4 Pro starts with 12 CPU and 16 GPU cores, Apple offers upgrades to a 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU at the time of purchase. Similarly, the M4 Max starts with a 14-core CPU and 32-core GPU but can be swapped for a configuration with 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores. The company does not publish information such as core speeds. Also interestingly, all of the SoC options have the same 16-core Neural Engine for AI processing. Memory bandwidth does vary, from 120Gbps on the base M4 to 546Gbps on the top-end M4 Max.

The 14-inch models have a 3024x1964-pixel native resolution while 16-inch models come in at 3456x2234 pixels. Apple promises 1000-nit sustained full-screen brightness going up to 1600 nits with HDR content. The refresh rate goes up to 120Hz and there’s full P3 colour gamut support. External display support varies based on processor type.

Apple claims up to 24 hours of video streaming with a 16-inch M4 Pro model but that falls to 21 hours with the M4 Max, since both have the same 100Wh battery. The 14-inch models have smaller 72.4Wh batteries, so battery life only goes up to 24 hours with the base M4 SoC.

M4-powered variants have three Thunderbolt 4 (40Gbps) Type-C ports, but the M4 Pro and M4 Max enable Thunderbolt 5 (120Gbps). All variants also have an SDXC card slot, HDMI port, 3.5mm audio socket, and MagSafe charging connector.

There’s an upgraded 12-megapixel webcam with support for Centre Stage automatic framing. You also six speakers with support for spatial audio, a studio-quality three-mic array, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. The new units will ship with macOS Sequoia 15.1 installed.

The 14-inch model weighs up to 1.62kg and is 15.5mm thick while the 16-inch model weighs up to 2.15kg and is 16.8mm thick. Silver and Space Black are now the only options across the lineup, with the last Space Grey models retiring.

In an unexpected footnote to its MacBook Pro announcement, Apple also said the MacBook Air will now ship with 16GB of RAM minimum, at the same prices as before. This makes 16GB the minimum spec across the entire current Mac lineup, joining the just-announced Mac mini and iMac likely in order to boost performance when Apple Intelligence is used.
