The iPhone 17 Air will reportedly feature a remarkably thin 6.25mm profile.
Smartphone giants Apple and Samsung are preparing to add new ultra-slim flagship devices to their premium lineups this year. Leaks and rumours indicate that Apple plans to introduce an iPhone 17 Air model to replace the Plus variant, while Samsung is developing a Galaxy S25 Slim as an addition to its S25 series.
According to Korean publication Sisajournal, Apple aims to launch the iPhone 17 Air alongside other iPhone 17 models in September. The new device is expected to maintain pricing comparable to the current iPhone 16 Plus model.
The iPhone 17 Air will reportedly feature a remarkably thin 6.25mm profile, representing a significant reduction from the iPhone 16's 7.8mm thickness. Technical specifications are expected to include either an A18 or A19 processor, 8GB of RAM, and notably, Apple's first proprietary 5G and Wi-Fi chips.
Leaksters project the device will be positioned in the premium segment, with pricing estimated between $1,299 and $1,500.
Samsung's response to this ultra-slim trend will reportedly be the Galaxy S25 Slim, though on a different timeline than its standard S25 lineup.
While the base S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra models are scheduled for a January 22 release, the Slim variant is anticipated to launch in the second or third quarter of this year. Leaks suggest Samsung initiated development of the Slim model in direct response to Apple's plans.
The Galaxy S25 Slim is expected to feature a mid-6mm thickness, making it notably thinner than the current Galaxy S24's 7.6mm profile. Samsung has reportedly incorporated Advanced Lenses on Prism (ALoP) technology to achieve a more compact camera system. The device is expected to be priced below the premium Ultra model while maintaining flagship specifications.
