In a move to strengthen its artificial intelligence offerings, Apple has released a beta version of its Apple Intelligence suite. The release includes the much-anticipated ChatGPT integration, positioning Apple to compete more directly in the AI space.
The beta release, part of iOS 18.2, introduces several groundbreaking tools. Users can now access enhanced text manipulation features, allowing for customised content rewriting through Apple Intelligence.

Apple's preview also includes Genmoji, a novel emoji generation system, alongside Image Playground, which enables AI-powered image creation. For photo editing enthusiasts, Apple's Image Wand feature offers advanced object removal capabilities.
While developers can access these features immediately through the iOS 18.2 beta, the general public will first experience Apple Intelligence through iOS 18.1, scheduled for release next week. Following typical beta testing cycles, the full suite of new features is expected to roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
The partnership between Apple and OpenAI, first announced in June, represents a strategic approach to AI implementation. While Apple's native intelligence features operate locally on device chips, users can now access OpenAI's ChatGPT for more complex queries, expanding the system's capabilities.
Notable by the anticipated feature enabling Siri to perform in-app actions, is missing, but Apple indicates this functionality is in development.
