Hyundai unveiled two versions of the Bayon compact SUV on October 12, one for India and one for Europe. The India-spec model launches on October 26, with bookings open at ₹11,000. The two share a name, a body, and a pair of curved screens, but they differ in engines, technology and how much has been revealed.

Hyundai Bayon Design

Photographs released by Hyundai show a common design. The Bayon has a boxy, upright stance, a slim full-width LED light bar, black cladding on the wheel arches and sills, and roof rails.

The differences in the pictures come mostly from trim. The European car shown is the sportier N Line. It has angular winglets at the lower bumper corners, a hexagon-pattern grille mesh and black mirrors. Hyundai Europe's release adds 18-inch N Line wheels and a rear diffuser with twin exhaust outlets.

The India-spec car shown in red has body-coloured mirrors, a plain mesh lower grille, a silver skid plate and dual-tone alloys. Hyundai India has not given wheel size or exterior dimensions. Europe also offers three matte colours: Vibrant Blue, Ice Blue and Fierce Red.

Hyundai Bayon Powertrain

The India-spec Bayon uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder MPi petrol engine making 114 bhp and 144 Nm. It comes with a 6-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).

Europe gets T-GDI turbo-petrol engines in 89 bhp and 114 bhp tunes. These pair with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A 1.6-litre hybrid with 135 bhp combined and a 6-speed dual-clutch will follow, with Hyundai Europe saying it arrives in 2027.

Hyundai Bayon Features and Technology

Both versions have dual 12.3-inch curved displays. Beyond that, the two markets stress different things.
India's pitch is software. The Bayon gets HMIL's first Generative AI Voice Assistant, using intelligence by Perplexity and SoundHound AI, though Hyundai says it supports English only. The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit is accelerated by NVIDIA. Up to 19 controllers get over-the-air updates, and Bluelink offers over 70 connected features. The interface supports 10 regional and two international languages. More than 500 embedded voice commands work offline in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu.

Europe's release highlights Hyundai Digital Key 2, which lets a smartphone or smartwatch unlock and start the car. It also lists wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a Bose eight-speaker system. The SmartSense safety suite includes Highway Driving Assist 2 and Surround View Monitor. Hyundai India has not yet listed its safety equipment.
