The highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset is set to launch on February 2. Apple is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring customers have the best possible first experience with the device.
In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reveals that the $3,499 Apple Vision Pro will receive an unprecedented 25-minute in-store demo experience. According to sources familiar with Apple's plans, retail employees have undergone extensive training to fit the Vision Pro properly to each user and showcase its capabilities.
Multiple fitting accessories like light seals and cushion sizes need to be selected based on each customer's face scan. While correct fitting is crucial to prevent discomfort and provide an immersive demo, retail staffers have also been trained to calibrate eye and hand tracking.
After the lengthy setup process, demo experiences will include spatial photos, videos, 3D models and immersive movies. Some popular apps and Safari browsing in VR will also be shown as part of the demo. Apple aims to give users a compelling but not exhausting introduction to the Vision Pro's capabilities.
To prepare employees, Apple hosted demo sessions at its Cupertino headquarters. Hundreds of retail staff got hands-on time with the device and were walked through the demo process. They will relay their training to other employees. Retail locations will have multiple demo units available for the launch weekend.
Apple is pulling out all the stops to ensure the Vision Pro launch succeeds, despite challenges of price and newness of the form factor. Only time will tell if the intensive 25-minute demo experience will help drive the adoption of Apple's first major new product in almost a decade.
