Developers and users will get their first glimpses of Apple's ambitious vision for artificial intelligence at WWDC 2024 on June 10. The event will be livestreamed across Apple TV, the Apple website, Apple Vision Pro, and YouTube starting at 10:30 pm IST on Monday, June 10.

AI is expected to take centre stage at the event, with around half of the keynote focused on new integrations across the company's major apps and platforms. Apple's new AI system, codenamed 'Apple Intelligence,' will aim to seamlessly incorporate AI into core experiences and apps such as Photos, Search, Messages, and more.

Some of the key highlights of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 that have been leaked or rumoured so far include AI-enhanced photo editing tools, voice memo transcriptions via Siri, and smart features such as automatic article summaries in Safari. Deep learning models from partners including OpenAI will also power new chat and virtual assistant capabilities.

The Messages app is reportedly set to gain customised emoji reactions and scheduled sending. AI will also power new ways to auto-categorise mail and create calendar reminders. Meanwhile, macOS 15 aims to improve privacy and navigation in Settings while bringing new Calculator and Photos apps to the iPad. The new AI capabilities will be available on iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches. However it isn't yet clear whether older devices will be able to support any or all of these features.

In addition to AI, developers can expect more customisation options for the home screens and Control Centre in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. In addition, improved privacy and search functions are also coming to the Mac in macOS 15. The Messages, Health, and Fitness apps will likely see notable upgrades, too.

WWDC will also provide a first look at upcoming capabilties for Apple's expanding hardware lineup. Details of new versions of watchOS for Apple Watch and visionOS for the company's mixed reality headset should be announced, while upgrades to tvOS and software for AirPods and HomePod could also be on the docket.

While WWDC usually focuses on software, Apple is expected to tease some upcoming devices that will take these AI and software capabilities to the next level, now that it has already unveiled its M4 SoC with the launch of the latest iPad Pro generation.
