The RS 660 and the Tuono 660 have also received a price bump
Aprilia has launched its 3 660 cc platform bikes in the India market, with the key highlight being the new Tuareg 660 that comes in at an eye-watering ₹ 18.85 lakh (ex-showroom India). The Aprilia RS660 and Tuono 660 were previously sold in India in 2021 for ₹ 13.39 lakh and now will be sold at ₹ 17.74 lakh and ₹ 17.44 lakh respectively.
The Tuareg 660 is a purpose-built machine designed to dominate off-road adventures. This robust motorcycle departs from the street-oriented focus of its RS 660 and Tuono 660 counterparts.
Visually, the Tuareg 660 sheds the sleek fairings and gets an utilitarian look. A tall windscreen offers wind protection on long journeys, while a high front fender shields the rider from mud and debris. The headlight assembly is designed to withstand the rigours of off-road riding and has that crazy rally look. Function takes centre stage here – a large, flat seat provides comfort on long rides, a luggage rack allows you to carry additional gear, and hand guards protect your hands from brush and branches on narrow trails.
At its heart, the Tuareg 660 packs a punch with a 659cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. This powerplant features the same DOHC layout with 270 firing order. The engine is tuned to prioritise low-end torque, producing a maximum of 80 bhp at 9250 rpm and a healthy 70 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This translates to better pulling power at lower revs, crucial for navigating challenging inclines, loose gravel, and uneven surfaces encountered off-road.
Compared to the RS 660 and Tuono 660, it has long-travel suspension. The Aprilia Tuareg 660 has 240 mm of suspension travel at both ends, with adjustable front and rear suspension. The front suspension has a 43 mm Kayaba USD fork with 9.4 in. travel, while the rear suspension has a Kayaba shock with 9.4 in. travel. The suspension holds the trellis fame. It gets block-pattern tyres, and wire-spoke wheels in a 21-inch/18-inch size combo. The sump reduces the vertical footprint, for a ground clearance of more than 240 mm and a seat height of less than 860 mm.
The Tuareg 660 has four riding modes, traction control, switchable ABS, and Aprilia Performance Ride Control. It also has a 5-inch colour TFT unit, all-LED lighting, upswept exhaust, and an 18-litre fuel tank.
The Tuareg 660 is more expensive than established players like the Ducati Multistrada V2 and the Ducati DesertX.
Its aggressive design retains its sporty character with subtle refinements. Semi-faired body panels, an upright windscreen, and clip-on handlebars provide a focused riding position for carving up corners. The signature triple LED headlight setup and a sleek LED taillight complete the aerodynamic package. Its soul lies in a potent 659cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine. This powerplant pumps out a formidable 101 bhp at 10,500 rpm and 67 Nm, enough to propel you to a staggering top speed of 230 kmph.
There will be an update to the Aprilia Tuono 660, the naked sibling of the RS 660. Sharing the same potent heart – a 659cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine churning out 101 bhp and 67 Nm of torque – the Tuono 660 is tuned for a more street-friendly experience. This has a more upright riding position for better comfort in urban environments. The bodywork further emphasises the Tuono 660's aggressive and ready-to-pounce stance.
