Thakur will continue to look after the electric vehicle business of TVS as well.
In a significant personnel movement within India's electric vehicle (EV) sector, Ashish Thakur, who previously served as the Global Service Head at Ola Electric, has resigned from his position after less than three years with the company.
Thakur, a seasoned professional with over 26 years of industry experience, has transitioned to TVS Motor Company, where he will lead the service & customer care division for its electric vehicle business. His departure follows a notable career at Maruti Suzuki, where he spent over two decades in regional service leadership roles.
The executive's exit comes at a challenging time for Ola Electric, which has been grappling with mounting customer service concerns and increased market competition. The company has been experiencing a decline in market share, with growing pressure from established two-wheeler manufacturers like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto.
In recent months, Ola Electric has been confronting significant operational hurdles, including an overwhelming volume of customer complaints that have strained its service infrastructure. The situation escalated when a public social media interaction between company founder Bhavish Aggarwal and comedian Kunal Kamra drew widespread attention to service quality issues.
Regulatory scrutiny has further intensified, with the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issuing a show cause notice to the company. This action followed over 10,000 complaints filed on the National Consumer Helpline, prompting the Consumer Affairs Ministry to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
While Ola Electric claimed to have resolved 99.1% of customer issues, subsequent verification by authorities challenged this assertion. The ongoing investigations reflect the increasing regulatory oversight in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market.
