In the domestic sales business, though, Hero sold roughly 600 units more than Honda

It has been quite a few months for Honda as the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer has once again dethroned Hero off the top of the two-wheeler sales chart for the second month running. The two of them have been quite neck and neck in recent times with Honda gaining the upper hand once again. Here’s how the top 5 two-wheeler makers fared:

Hero 4,92,6264,86,282

It is stunning to note that despite no new launches, Honda has been able to have such a strong performance. It could be a case of the company pushing out more units to its dealers to load up their inventory to make best use of the festive period. And has pulled the plug also on some models that have absolutely not worked for it, like the recent discontinuation of the XBlade. Finally, Honda is readying the electric Activa for a launch, potentially by the end of the year. So, expect better things for the brand soon.

Surprisingly, Hero did actually sell more two-wheelers in the domestic market than Honda: 4,92,263 vs 4,91,678. Hero does have a few two-wheelers lined up still for a launch this year. However, it is unlikely that they will make it to the market before the festive period as Hero wants to optimise the sale of its current products until then. We might see more action post EICMA 2024 where Hero is planning to showcase a few new two-wheelers, including production-ready versions of the Xoom scooters.

The other three have been doing consistent numbers with only Bajaj witnessing a dramatic year-on-year growth. Interestingly, Royal Enfield seems to have slowed down its production a bit with the retro bike maker only producing 75,379 units in August 2024, compared to 88,240 units produced in the same month last year. With upcoming product launches in the run-up to EICMA 2024, we should see the number grow in the next couple of months.
