Bajaj’s export business saw a nice healthy growth, though.
Despite a busy 2024 that saw Bajaj launch several new products, including the world’s first CNG motorcycle, the Freedom 125 – the brand’s sales performance in the last month of the year was a bit of a downer. With just 1,28,335 units sold in December 2024, Bajaj registered a sales drop of 10 per cent, compared to the 1,58,370 units it sold in the same month, last year. However, on a year-to-date basis (April to December 2024), Bajaj’s two-wheeler portfolio increased by 6 per cent with 18,07,153 units retailed, compared to 17,03,704 units it sold in the same period in 2023.
It was Bajaj’s export business that grew from strength to strength in 2024. And in December, Bajaj exported 15 per cent more two-wheelers with 1,43,838 units exported last month, compared to the 1,24,631 units it did last year in the same month. On a year-to-date basis, this helped the marque register 11 per cent growth with its export business, wherein Bajaj exported 12,31,593 units, compared to 11,07,402 units it did from April to December, last year.
So despite Bajaj’s overall sales last month (including both domestic, export, and commercial vehicle sales) dropped by 1 per cent with 3,23,125 units cumulatively retailed, compared to the 3,26,806 units it registered last year. On a year-to-date basis, the brand’s overall sales increased by 8 per cent with a total of 35,48,032 units retailed from April to December 2024, compared to the 32,82,537 units it retailed during the same period, last year.
However, Bajaj has no plans to slow down though. The brand has already topped the EV sales chart and now holds a 25 per cent market share (as of December 2024) by retailing 18,276 units of the Chetak last month. It took the brand five years to overtake both TVS and Ola Electric, who currently hold 23 per cent and 19 per cent shares of the EV market, respectively.
2025 will also see Bajaj continue to update its Pulsar portfolio and the next bike on cards is the Pulsar RS200. The brand’s only 200 cc, fully faired sport bike will receive its first substantial update since it debuted in 2015. This will be followed by the launch of the new KTM 390 Adventure S and the 390 Enduro R – both were already showcased last year in Goa at the India Bike Week, and bookings for the same have already commenced. All that remains is to reveal the asking price of both the KTMs.
