Auto Sales July 2024: 5 Best Selling Compact SUVs

Sales in July 2024 haven’t been great for a lot of car manufacturers in the Indian automotive space with many reporting a year-on-year decline in sales in the month gone by. The compact SUV segment, though, has always been a strong one in the market with many models even competing for the best-selling model in the country. Let’s check out five compact SUVs with the highest sales in July 2024, as per the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). 

Hyundai Creta

Sales in July 2024: 17,350 units

The Creta has been one of the highest-selling models for Hyundai India for a long time now. Since it was introduced in 2015, Hyundai has sold over 10 lakh units of the compact SUV. The second-generation model was introduced in January 2024 and even that has achieved one lakh sales milestone in six months. Prices for the Creta range between ₹11 - 20 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and comes with a plethora of powertrain options. 

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

Sales in July 2024: 9,397 units

While the Grand Vitara may not be close to being in the top 10 best-selling cars in India last month, it is a strong contender in the compact SUV segment. Launched in 2022, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 2 lakh units of the Grand Vitara and the brand said that the mild-hybrid petrol engine is the most preferred powertrain. Maruti Suzuki’s compact SUV is priced between ₹10.99 - 19.93 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and along with the mild-hybrid, it also gets a strong-hybrid and CNG powertrain. 

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Sales in July 2024: 7,419 units

A rebadged version of the Grand Vitara, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder has also witnessed mild success in the Indian market. Like the Grand Vitara, the Hyryder also has mild-hybrid petrol, strong-hybrid, and CNG powertrain options. Toyota's compact SUV is priced between ₹11.14 - 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Kia Seltos

Sales in July 2024: 5,347 units

Kia entered the Indian market in 2019 with the Seltos and the compact SUV has been a strong driver for the brand’s sales since. Kia India recently crossed the 10 lakh sales milestone and the Seltos accounted for 48 per cent of the total sales. The prices for Kia’s compact SUV range between ₹10.90 - 20.37 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and like the Creta, comes with multiple powertrain options. 

Volkswagen Taigun

Sales in July 2024: 1,564 units

Volkswagen India recently achieved a 1 lakh sales milestone for its models sold under the India 2.0 programme. The Taigun tallied 61 per cent of the total sales. Furthermore, Volkswagen said more than 40 per cent of those buyers opted for the top-spec GT Line variants of the Taigun and Virtus. The Taigun is priced between ₹11.70 - 19.74 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and comes with two engine options.
