This jump in sales is primarily due to clearing backlogs and irregular registrations in February 2025.
Ola Electric registered a massive month-on-month sales growth of 170.96 per cent by retailing 23,430 units last month, i.e. March 2025. However, there’s a catch to this, as Ola Electric had a lot of pending deliveries from February 2025, which were carried forward. Plus, registrations of a lot of electric scooter sales in February were carried forward, too, because the vehicle registration process has been shifted in-house, which was earlier handled by Rosmerta and Shimnit.
Ola Electric claims that most of the pending sales from February 2025 have been cleared. The remaining will be completed by March and April. To ensure that this backlog is cleared as soon as possible, Ola Electric has also scaled up its registration operations. The brand will also ramp up production of its Gen 3 S1 scooter throughout April for faster deliveries. While the above looks like positive news and initiatives by Ola Electric, whether or not it can sustain its sales momentum in the next FY remains to be seen.
Ola Electric is currently being investigated by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) owing to a discrepancy in registration and sales numbers in February 2025. This investigation was issued by the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Plus, given the series of controversies it is riddled with, whether it’s in the form of dealerships violating trade certifications or poor service quality, the brand already has a lot of tasks at hand before it reaches the zenith. It has already lost significant ground to legacy manufacturers, with market share reducing from 35 per cent in FY24 to 30 per cent in FY25.
