Maruti Suzuki India Limited has reported robust sales figures for the month of September 2023, achieving a significant milestone by surpassing the one-million-unit mark in half-yearly sales. In September 2023, Maruti Suzuki recorded a total of 181,343 units in sales, registering a growth of 2.86 per cent compared to the 176,306 units sold in September 2022. These comprise various segments, including domestic sales, sales to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and exports. The company's domestic sales reached 153,106 units for the month, an increase of 1.47 per cent compared to the same month last year when the company recorded sales of 150,885 units.
This figure includes a comprehensive range of passenger vehicles, such as the mini and compact segment, mid-size, utility vehicles, and vans. Notably, Maruti Suzuki achieved a significant milestone for the April–September 2023 period by selling a total of 1,050,085 units, a surplus of 6.57 per cent from the 985,326 units sold during the April–September 2022 period. This marks the first time that the company has crossed the one-million-unit mark in half-yearly sales.
In the mini and compact segment, which includes popular models like the Baleno, Swift, and WagonR, Maruti Suzuki sold 68,552 units in September 2023 while the company sold 72,176 units in September 2022, a decrease of 5.02 per cent. The mid-size segment, represented by Ciaz, saw sales of 1,491 units, up from 1,359 units sold in the same month last year, a rise of 9.71 per cent.
The Utility Vehicles category, featuring models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, S-Cross, and XL6, recorded 59,271 units in sales in September 2023 from 32,574 units sold in September 2022, registering a growth of 81.96 per cent. The Eeco van, known for its versatility, contributed 11,147 units to the total.
Maruti Suzuki's LCV, the Super Carry, posted sales of 2,294 units, reflecting the brand's presence in the commercial vehicle segment. Maruti Suzuki continued to strengthen its presence in the global market, with exports totalling 22,511 units in September 2023, recording a growth of 5.18 per cent from 21,403 units distributed to overseas markets in September 2022. The company also provided 5,726 units to other OEMs.
