Recently, a Bajaj Chetak scooter apparently catching fire created quite an uproar about the scooter’s safety.
The Bajaj Chetak has become quite popular of late. With this, Bajaj Auto is gradually climbing up the leaderboard towards the highest-selling electric two-wheeler brand position. However, an isolated incident of a Chetak apparently catching fire recently could jeopardise this. Bajaj Auto swiftly responded and moved the vehicle to a service centre, and after a thorough investigation, the company says it has detected that there was no fire or thermal runaway.
The event was limited to smoke emissions from a plastic component, and furthermore despite this small mishap, the battery and motor remained intact, according to the company. In fact, Bajaj says the “materials used in the battery pack ensured the safety of the vehicle even under such a condition.”
While Bajaj Auto has yet to find the root cause of this isolated incident, the manufacturer stated that it is “fully committed to understanding and addressing any potential issues”.
Rajiv Bajaj, the managing director of Bajaj Auto, recently proudly proclaimed that the Chetak had become the best-selling electric scooter in the country. He even made the statement, “Ola toh Ola hain, Chetak to Shola hain” – a subtle yet impactful dig at Ola Electric, which has been plagued with quality control and after-sales service issues of late.
