This rise in popularity is courtesy of the launch of the new affordable Bajaj Chetak 2901 variant.
In a significant development for Bajaj Auto, the Chakan-based manufacturer registered 20,000 bookings of the Chetak electric scooter in July 2024. The introduction of the new Chetak 2901 a few weeks back at a competitive price point of ₹95,998 was exceptionally well-received, which was one of the main reasons behind the surge in popularity.
This new entry-level electric scooter boasts an impressive 123 km range, thus addressing one of the primary concerns of potential EV adopters. It also comes equipped with modern features such as a coloured digital console, alloy wheels, and Bluetooth connectivity, thus keeping it relevant.
Bajaj's aggressive expansion into Tier 2 towns has played a crucial role in this sales surge. The company has significantly increased its footprint, with the Chetak now available across approximately 2,000 sales outlets nationwide. This expanded network has brought the electric scooter within reach of a broader customer base, tapping into previously underserved markets.
The Bajaj Chetak has been a significant product for Bajaj Auto. The new electric scooter marked the return of this iconic brand into the scooter market as the manufacturer's first electric vehicle. Over the years, Bajaj has made several minor updates to the Chetak; however, it has lagged behind competitors in performance and range. Before the launch of the new Chetak 2901, Bajaj had given the Chetak its first significant upgrade.
