A total of 45,619 electric two-wheelers have been sold in the first 15 days of July 2025.
Despite the ongoing crisis over Rare Earth Element (REE) availability from China, the electric two-wheeler business in the country is not hit as hard. According to the Vahan portal, 45,619 electric scooters were retailed in the country between 1 and 15 July 2025. Of these, 9,919 units were sold by Bajaj Auto, followed by TVS with 9,414 units. It is a close battle as TVS has consistently topped the E2W sales charts in the country in the first three months of FY26.
While legacy manufacturers are fighting out at the top, its Bengaluru-based Ather Energy, which is gaining steady ground. The brand has already retailed 7,480 electric scooters in the country, which has helped the public company surpass sales of Ola Electric, which registered sales of 7,362 units. This growth in business for Ather comes mainly on the shoulders of the Rizta, a new S variant that helps matters further. The family electric scooter crossed its 1 lakh sales milestone last month, and it continues to rake in more business for the brand with no signs of slowing down. And with the new EL series on the horizon, things look pretty positive for Ather.
Ola has been losing traction in the e2W market owing to several issues, such as consumer dissatisfaction and poor product quality, for example. Recently, the Maharashtra Government declared to shut Ola dealerships in the state as almost 90% of them are conducting business without any valid trade certificate. If Ola does not change strategies, its sales might further tumble, as Maharashtra is one of the biggest markets, registering the most sales in the country.
Fifth is Hero MotoCorp, with sales of 3,987 units. It recently launched the new Vida VX2 at a very affordable ₹45,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) with Battery-As-A-Service. This makes the VX2 one of the most affordable family electric scooters in the market. Coupled with Hero’s extensive dealership network, we expect the largest Indian two-wheeler manufacturer in the country to climb up the sales chart very quickly in the coming months.
The overall electric two-wheeler market has around 200 players, but sales are largely dominated by these top 5 manufacturers with the maximum market share. New players are losing out to these OEMs due to several factors. To learn more about these causes and to understand the electric two-wheeler market better, check out this link.
