Will Bajaj bring back the not-so-successful AS moniker for its upcoming ADV tourer?
Bajaj enthusiasts might be in for a treat as recent developments hint at an ADV tourer in the works. Recently there have been images of a camouflaged Bajaj motorcycle undergoing testing near Ahmedabad. The test mule spotted several features reminiscent of the Pulsar AS lineup, including a muscular fuel tank with extensions, taller riding stance and a comfortable two-piece seat.
Further fueling the rumors, Rajiv Bajaj spoke about "super-segmenting" the Pulsar brand during a recent interview. This strategy involves creating diverse models within the Pulsar family to cater to a wider range of customer preferences. The revival of the AS series aligns perfectly with this approach. During the recent NS400Z launch, the company's MD, Rajiv Bajaj, hinted at two more motorcycles joining the Pulsar lineup. This suggests a strategic expansion within the Pulsar brand, potentially catering to even more diverse rider needs and market segments.
Based on the spy shots, the spotted AS is seen to pack a 160cc, single-cylinder air-cooled engine. Visually, it seems to have an aggressive enduro-style headlight. This is flanked by a muscular fuel tank and split seat. The seat is scooped up and rises up to the tank.
Additionally, the high-set handlebars contribute to an upright and comfortable riding posture, like an ADV should have. The front suspension is an USD unit and the rear is definitely a monoshock. The rear design carries the signature Pulsar DNA with the brand's recognizable split taillight and a familiar tyre hugger, reminiscent of other Pulsar models.
This new Pulsar AS might cater to riders seeking a stylish and comfortable motorcycle for everyday commuting with a touch of adventure flair. It wouldn't be a hardcore off-road machine but could offer a taste of touring for those who crave it.
